December update

It's been a busy couple of months at ASRC, and as we head into the festive season we'd like to share some updates with you.

Festive period club opening times

  • The club will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on 27 December at 10am.
  • The club will close at 6pm on 31 December and reopen on 3 January at 10am.

Club facilities upgrades

We have been working to upgrade and maintain several areas of the club where budget and time permits. Here's a short summary - if you have any questions about the work, please get in touch.

  • A contractor has repaired some areas of the roof which were letting rainwater in. We will keep an eye on this for any further issues.
  • We have started work on upgrading the ladies' changing rooms, removing the sauna and improving the lighting. We will soon replace the flooring and shower cubicles.
  • With lots of help from members, the courts have had a good scrub!
  • Courts 6 & 7 will be repainted, floors sanded and re-lined in August 2024 by Courtcraft. We will look to get all courts done when finances allow.
  • We are reinstalling the CCTV and door entry systems this month. Your current ASRC card will still work. Replacement cards will be £10.
  • The designated smoking area has been set up in the car park in line with legislation. All members and visitors must use this area if smoking or vaping.
  • The worst parts of the car park have been resurfaced.
  • The bar team and Kate (who retires this month) have done a great job keeping the club neat and tidy on a daily basis.

Membership & Sponsors

We have now concluded the 2023 annual membership renewal period. Here's how it went:

  • We have approximately kept the same number of members
  • We simplified the Pay Per Play options, with several of these players upgrading to Ordinary memberships
  • Junior and women's memberships have increased
  • Student memberships have decreased but we are working to replenish this

We have also retained our long-term court sponsors:

  • Court 7        TRAC Energy
  • Court 1        SKN Electrical Ltd
  • Court 2        A. W. AutoTech / Garioch Blinds & Furnishing Ltd

We continue to look for additional court sponsors - hopefully we will have some exciting news on this in the New Year.

We would also like to thank our long-term and our other sponsors for their continued support:

  • Hall Morrice
  • IFB
  • df Communications
  • Scott James & Associates
  • Garioch Blinds & Furnishings

We also would like to thank the team from the Shell Pecten Club who have  renewed their Corporate Membership for up to 35 members. Their support is greatly appreciated.

Squash

We're sure you'll agree that we've had some great squash events so far this season, and we'd like to extend our thanks to all at ASRC, Grampian Squash and Scottish Squash who support in delivering these.

Coaching

We 're pleased that Joe Ewen has come on board to provide coaching to members feeling the need to upgrade their skills on the court. Joe will be available for individual coaching sessions, but we plan to arrange group sessions for those of similar skill levels. The main goal of the coaching is to attract new players to the game and ultimately new members to the club. More information to follow on this initiative towards the end of this year.

Personalised ASRC Sports Clothing

We are delighted to launch the official ASRC Club Kit store. You can now purchase a wide range of ASRC-branded squash kit, including warm-up/casual clothing, training and match gear and accessories.

Please visit www.iprosports.co.uk/aberdeen-squash-racketball-club to see our full range and purchase your kit! Here are some hints and tips:

  • Most items are available in several colours. You are free to select the colour you prefer, however please note that the ASRC logo may alter very slightly to remain visible against your chosen colour
  • Shipping goes direct to your chosen address – we will not hold stock at the club
  • There is an option to print your name or initials on tops – simply follow the instructions on the website

Function Room

Our function room can be a great source of revenue for the club. Over the last few months, use of the function room has increased significantly. We have had the room used for everything from mother and toddler groups, business meetings, bagpipe practice sessions and our very own quiz nights.

We want to continue the growth in use of the Function room so if you or a friend are looking for a West End function room to hold an event please get in touch on [email protected]

Over the course of the year the Bar Team has done an excellent job in keeping the bar, the facilities and function room ticking over. We're sure you will want to join us in thanking them for all their efforts.

Stay safe over the festive period and enjoy the facilities of ASRC.

The Committee.
